RITUALS OF DAILY LIVING

Life is busy, often chaotic. It is through the rituals of day to day living that we come to receive each day as a gift. When we create traditions of how we rise in the morning and go to bed at night, how we gather for meals, and how we mark our comings and goings--we create a rhythm for the day in which we can live and rest. It is through the tangible words and actions of the rituals that we recognize the presence of God. It is by their ordinariness that we experience the mystery of the Holy.

Why is everyone hungry for more?
"More, more," they say. "More, more."
I have God's more-than-enough,
More joy in one ordinary day
Than they get in all
their shopping sprees.

At day's end I'm ready for sound sleep,
For you, God,

have put my life back together.
--Psalm 4:6-8, The Message
