PREPARE FOR WORSHIP

SUGGESTIONS FOR PARENTS, FRIENDS OF CHILDREN,
AND MEMBERS OF THE CONGREGATION

  • Free yourself from worry about children’s behavior and be open to receiving their ministry to you.
  • Express your gladness at having children in worship.  Welcome the children near you.  Include them in conversation before and after worship to let them know they belong.
  • Set an example of the right worship attitude:  be cheerful and greet neighbors, and as the time of worship draws near, maintain a reverent silence.
  •  Bring something along for very little ones to hold or look at – something soft and quiet.   Or pick up a worship bag in the narthex. Each bag contains quiet activities.
  • Help the children to know what will happen next in worship.  Encourage children to find hymns and scripture lessons and read them if they are able.
  • Discuss worship at home.  Practice the Lord’s Prayer, The Gloria Patri, and the Doxology.
