MEETING GOD IN PRAYER

Prayer is about spending time with God.
It can include words or not.
You can be kneeling, sitting, standing, walking.
Actually, anything you do can be prayer
if it is done with the awareness that you are doing it with God.
The best way to teach children to pray is to pray with them.

Meditation for Preschoolers

Be still and know that I am God.
But no matter how we started, “let’s do meditation” has become the nightly
plea for my oldest boy’s bedtime routine.
Who can resist that request, even at the end of an exhausting day? So
meditate we do.

Prayer Flags

Have you heard of the tradition of the Tibetan prayer flags? Prayer flags are colorful square cloths carefully sewn to twine. They are strung along mountain ridges and peaks high in the Himalayas. The belief is that as these prayers are blown by the wind, as they become frayed and tattered, the prayers bless the world. You've probably been asked to say your prayers out loud, but go ahead and be adventurous and write your prayers out loud.

Summer Prayer Corner

Create a summertime prayer corner in your home, in your yard, or on your
deck, patio, or balcony. It can serve as a sacred space for prayer and teach
reverence for the holy.

Dig Deeper Drive

As you drive in your car as a family, spend a portion of your commute time in prayer. When passing others—in cars, on bike, or on foot—offer up prayers for selected individuals. Go beyond a seemingly straightforward prayer for him or her, and think outside the box: What is one thing that could brighten his day, or make her feel loved and special?

Planting Prayers

Sing and read a Bible verse about prayer, transform a piece of newspaper into a seed pot, fill the seed pot with good soil and a few seeds. As the plant grows so do your prayers.

Hand Prayers

Encourage one another to pray regularly, even when it's hard to think of what you want to say or you can't remember who needs your prayers. Learn to look at your hand to help you recall at least five prayer petitions or intentions.
